An album that kind of slipped under the radar this summer is "The Back Room" by Birmingham's Editors. Being a British band with emotional vocals in 2005 pretty much means you get thrown into the pile of Coldplay ripoff bands, when really I hear a little bit of (hey, lets make a long list, that'll be fun) Replacements, U2, Maximo Park, Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Placebo, and specifically in this track's case, Interpol. The band goes on to add Echo and the Bunnymen, REM, Elbow and the Doves to this list as well. Is it just me, or do British bands always end up compared to a zillion more bands than North American ones? You can stream a few more tracks via their section on the Kitchenware Records website.
