I discovered both Black Moth Super Rainbow and The Octopus Project earlier this year on completely separate occasions. Black Moth Super Rainbow intrigued me with their demented synth sounds and infatuation with vocoders, while The Octopus Project knocked me on my ass through their mechanical instrumentals in the vein of Trans Am and Turing Machine. You can imagine my surprise when these two seemingly unconnected bands decided to team up and record a bunch of songs together, resulting in a little something called The House of Apples and Eyeballs. This collaboration is certainly one of the most unique things I've heard all year, and while I was a bit disappointed that some of the tracks are short throwaway sound bites, there's still some great robotic melodies to be heard.
