El-P - Poisenville Kids No Wins / Reprise (This Must Be Our Time) feat. Chan Marshal

I will admit that I'm not particularly well-versed in the world of hip-hop, but on occasion certain records jump out and grab my attention. Usually I gravitate towards stuff that is a little bit progressive (ie. an amalgamation of different musical styles) or other times rap with a humourous and/or nerdy angle (ie. something that my pansy white boy ass can relate to). As far as I can tell, El-P kind of fits into both groups, and after seeing the impressive list of collaborators on his latest album I'll Sleep When You're Dead, I simply had to check it out. From Yo La Tengo bassist James McNew, to Omar and Cedric of The Mars Volta, to Trent Reznor, there are a lot of interesting names in the mix. One of the coolest songs on the album, however, features Chan "Cat Power" Marshal on backup vocals. It's definitely a great album closer. Now it's time for me to go back and familiarize myself with some of El-P's previous work too...
