Muzak for Cybernetics is on Hiatus

Just wanted to give a quick update for anyone who is still following Muzak for Cybernetics and wondering if the site is dead or not. The answer to that question is still TBD, but for the time being it's definitely on hold. I am still posting the occasional music video over on my personal blog Media Mixtape, so bookmark that if you still want to hear some new music every now and then. Other than that, there are plenty of other amazing music sites out there that are far more interesting and updated much more frequently.

Lady Gaga - Telephone ft. Beyonce (Video)

I don't love her music but I can dig Lady Gaga's provocative yet pretentious sense of art. With appearances from Tyrese Gibson and the Kill Bill Pussy Wagon, this 9 and a half-minute video certainly embodies that. I want those cigarette sunglasses. Directed by Jonas Akerlund (Spun).

YACHT - The Afterlife (Video)

"You do not go to death, death comes to you." I'm not sure if YACHT is actually a religious band or not, but the stylish baptisms, water imagery and flowing robes in this video definitely bring to mind the schtick of The Causey Way. Their cryptic spiritual psychobabble follows in the same vein. Directed by Judah Switzer.

Bonobo - Eyesdown (Video)

I first became aware of Bonobo after his song "Flutter" was used for the theme to the short-lived jPod TV series. His new album Black Sands is out now on Ninja Tune. Video directed by Steve Glashier.

Hot Chip - I Feel Better (Video)

British actor/comedian Peter Serafinowicz directed this amazing video that re-imagines Hot Chip as a boy band that gets disintegrated by a bald dude shooting lasers from his mouth.

Cancer Bats - Sabotage (Video)

Not a big fan of the Cancer Bats, but I have to admit that this cover of Sabotage is somewhat inspired. The video can't really hold a candle to Spike Jonze's original, but hey, at least they tried.

OK Go - This Too Shall Pass (Video #2)

Apparently it's not enough to have just one awesome video for a song... OK Go needs to have two. This Rube Goldberg tribute is even more complex than the live marching band performance.

Caribou - Odessa (Video)

This somewhat abstract and dreamlike video for Caribou's new track "Odessa" raised some eyebrows a week or two ago because it appeared to have a random penis in it at the 13-second mark. Turns it out it was just a girl in a red hoodie! Hilarious! Their new album Swim hits stores on April 20th.

Kirsten Dunst - Turning Japanese (Video)

Kirsten Dunst visits Akihabara in full cosplay getup for this strange music video commissioned by artist Takashi Murakami and directed by McG. It supposedly screened last fall at a London art show called "Pop Life: Art in a Material World". In other words, it wasn't made for public consumption, and seems to be getting pulled off YouTube quite quickly. The embed may not be around for long.

Despite a number of line-up changes since the release of their first album We Are The Pipettes, the kitschy '60s vibe is still firmly in tact. The Pipettes will return with Earth vs. Pipettes, to be released sometime later this year.

The High Dials - Killer of Dragons (Video)

I'm not a huge fan of the direction that Montreal's High Dials took with their lastest album Moon Country, but if the psych/prog rock thing leads to more epic fantasy music videos like this one, then maybe I'll be okay with it after all.

Mia Doi Todd - Open Your Heart (Video)

I don't know anything about Mia Doi Todd, but this new video from Michel Gondry is another beautiful combination of colour and synchronized movement that only he could dream up. A large group of people in a rainbow of clothing provide simple yet surreal visuals to match the music. The song will appear on Mia's next album, due out sometime in 2010.

Broken Bells - The High Road (Video)

Looks like another solid collaboration for Danger Mouse, this time teaming up with The Shins' frontman James Mercer to form Broken Bells. Their self-titled album hits stores in March, but in the meantime, enjoy this new video directed by Sophie Muller.
